About i2 Jamaica
Jamaica has for many years provided the soundtrack for lovers of vibrant, sincerely created music. i2 Jamaica is here to spread the joy of authentic reggae worldwide.
Jamaica is famous for many things. These days the name: Usain Bolt is synonymous with the nation’s highly impressive athletic prowess, but Jamaica also has a long history of producing musical superstars too: none greater than the legendary Bob Marley. Few countries can claim to have their own unique sound, but Jamaica bequeathed reggae to the world and the Universe is a much better place as a result! Coxson, Studio One, Sly & Robbie and many more blazed an astonishing trail and left a sonic legacy that still shines brightly today.
A series of in depth conversations between Phil Buchanan (i2’s A&R Director) and Errol Michael Henry (founder of Intimate Records and the i2 Music Group) about untapped potential led to the formation of i2 Jamaica. As the name suggests, i2 Recordings is devoting an entire division to developing a new wave of talented Jamaican artists, as well as providing a host of established artists with a purpose-built platform from which to sell and promote their music around the globe.
Phil says: “Nobody should under estimate the important role that quality reggae music has played over the years. We want to devote the time, energy and creative resources necessary to evolve the sound and improve the range of opportunities afforded to Jamaican based artists, writers, producers and labels. One of my first conversations when I stepped into my role at i2 was to champion the cause of authentic reggae music.”

i2 Jamaica will operate in association with Joseph Moore: a man uniquely qualified to run the label day-to-day. His EPPJAM outfit has been a pioneering force for independent Jamaican music and it’s influence will continue to grow as a result of the new venture with i2 Recordings. Joseph says: “Errol and Phil are both serious, committed and passionate people. Their desire to move the musical agenda forward for creative people in Jamaica is a welcome endorsement and I am delighted to be involved with such a progressive, innovative and collaborative organisation. EPPJAM and i2 Jamaica will accomplish important things together – about that I have no doubt.”
Errol Michael Henry is equally enthusiastic about the project saying: “I grew up listening to the reggae greats and to now be in a position where I can do something constructive to improve the commercial and fiscal prospects of Jamaican musicians means a great deal to me. Original Jamaican reggae has a sound, a feel and a spirit that is simply unrivalled. We want i2 Jamaica to capture the true essence of the music and export it worldwide.
My extensive career as a producer and music executive has enabled me to travel far and wide and the moment I mention that my heritage is Jamaican – people always say ‘reggae music – we love it!’ From the moment Phil first coined the term ‘i2 Jamaica’ I was totally hooked and I am looking forward to hearing the new releases.”
